Distal Leaf Apex, Multiple Views

Greenbush Bog, 20 km West of Hudson Bay, SK on Highway #3
01-August-2017

The leaves of Eleocharis consist of two, usually bladeless, sheaths.  The apex of this distal leaf has been rotated about its long axis in increments of 90 degrees.  Note the presence of a small tooth which is usually, but not always, present.  The leaf sheaths of E. compressa and E. nitida do not bear a tooth at their apex.
