Several Shoots

Highway # 9 at Overflowing River, North of Hudson Bay, SK

These shoots were extracted, with some difficulty, from a large, matted mass of submerged culms.  Only the upper portion of the flowering culms protruded above the water surface.  Note the rhizome.  The leaves are reduced to two bladeless sheaths per culm and there is one terminal spikelet per culm.
